Programs

CIBER-BBN is an initiative framed under the VI National Plan for R&D+i 2008-2011, Iniciativa Ingenio 2010, the Consolider program, Acciones CIBER and funded by the Carlos III Health Institute

The CIBER BBN activity is structured in a series of intramural projects and a series of horizontal programs:

Translational Research

Translational research in the biomedical field is understood as the application of the basic knowledge acquired in the research laboratory to clinical practice, for the purpose of improving the medical care. This type of research is a necessary element for the success of any strategy that is proposed to improve human health through specific programs.

The CIBER-BBN’s research must have the most direct and effective effect as possible on society, and particularly on the National Health System. The integration of translational research with clinical practice assures a better quality of health services and a better and faster implementation of scientific advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of any type of disease.

The Programme is set out around four focal points:

  1. Establishing collaborations with NHS institutions and hospitals.
    • Support for actions relating to the promotion of agreements and collaborations with hospitals and NHS institutions
    • Mobility plan within hospitals
  2. Collaborating with the remaining CIBERs and national research centers.
  3. Collaborating between the CIBER-BBN and the biopharmaceutical sector.
  4. Promoting other actions increasing translational research of the CIBER-BBN.
    • Supporting the conveyance of research results
    • Promoting relations with Scientific Societies
    • Disclosure of the programme and activity of the CIBER-BBN in the hospital setting

Industrial Transfer

Public research organisms, hospitals and universities forming part of CIBER-BBN are important technology-generating centers. To that end, one of the priorities of CIBER-BBN is to strengthen the transfer of said technologies to the business and industrial networks. Actions will therefore be conducted which dynamize and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology from the scientific sector to the production sector.

The Programme is set out around five focal points

  1. Plan of normalizing transfer in CIBER-BBN.
    • Creating a normalized framework in which to perform the transfer
    • Support for the transfer of research results through mechanisms of intellectual property protection
  2. Plan for agreements with the business network and adjusting the research offer to the demand of technology and vice-versa.
  3. Plan for creating spin-offs.
  4. Presence in technology platforms.
  5. Promoting the participation of companies in CIBER-BBN activities.

Training Plan

The final objective of the CIBER-BBN Training Programme is to increase the research skills of integrated personnel by means of improving the research personnel’s professional competence as a force for change, transforming skills, knowledge and abilities depending on the needs which appear throughout the course of the personnel’s research activity.

Dissemination Plan

Current research, and even more so the translational research with an enormous social impact that will be conducted in the CIBER-BBN, must be disseminated and explained to all parts of society, including the scientific community, the direct clients, which in this case are understood to be the National Healthcare System and the associated industry, and finally to the public as a whole through social communication channels.

The scientific communication and dissemination programme is set out around four focal points:

  1. Internal communication within the CIBER-BBN.
  2. Dissemination of CIBER-BBN’s activity in the national and international scientific-technological forums.
  3. Dissemination of CIBER-BBN’s activity to organisms, hospitals and industrial sectors involved in the development, use or the regulation of health technologies.
  4. Dissemination and communication to society.

Equipment Platform Program

One of the global objectives of CIBER-BBN is to share resources and infrastructures between groups.

CIBER-BBN platforms are constituted as clusters of technical-scientific equipment with a specific functionality. These clusters will offer top-level technological resources to the CIBER-BBN research groups and, where appropriate, to external groups, under the conditions that are established.
